The new-ish Cherokee's styling is controversial at best. I have yet to see one in the flesh, so I reserve my final judgement for that day. But today, I came upon this rendering for the Panda-based small Jeep that they have been talking about for quite a while now. It looks like a 500L which underwent rhinoplastic surgery. And this operation went horribly wrong! This is the stuff malpractice lawsuits are made off. O.K. this is just a rendering and we still might be in for a pleasant surprise in Geneva. I just doubt it. The people who do these are usually right. And in this case, why shouldn't they? Isn't this what carmakers usually do? Slap a new front end on an existing car to market it with a sister brand. So, if this thing is the real deal, where is Jeep heading? Are they trying the "deliberately ugly to catch attention" approach?

I have seen a couple, and first one was when I was working in the ghetto.

I wasn't completely appalled when I saw the photos, but in person it looks alright. I bet it is not really that big on the interior, similar to the XJ cherokee.

This is a pointless, useless, overweight, fugly, badly put together vehicle in a segment that shouldn't even exist and I wish it would just die already.

the 500 based jeep will look nothing like the 500 or panda according to a Jeep engineer i spoke with.

There's one that lives up the street. No matter what angle you see the front, It's ugly. IMO

I love the way the new Cherokee looks, although it looks to me, with those squinty headlights and thin taillights, that it was originally a design for an Alfa SUV that never came to pass back when SUVs were selling. They just took it and put a Jeep grille on it.

Meh, that's just a render, it shouldn't be taken seriously.
Also, FCA is not exactly GM in terms of rebadging. Look at the Dodge Dart and Alfa Giulietta, for example. I think that the new small Jeep will owe much less to the Panda than the render suggests.
(Even so, it must be said that these days, horribly ugly cars still have customers - look at the Nissan Juke's impressive success).

It's only a rendering. If it goes into production, I doubt it'll be as ugly as this 2003 Jeep Treo Concept.
